Re: Tour de Yorkshire – Thursday 3 May 2018
On Thursday 3 May 2018, the Tour de Yorkshire will be taking place with both the Women’s race and Men’s race coming through Howden.
The Women’s race starts in Beverley and finishes in Doncaster, travelling through Howden at approximately 10.43am. This is an exciting opportunity for students to support the race and those who have shown an interest in watching the race will receive a letter containing a consent slip for this. Students have been busy over the last few weeks learning about the Tour de Yorkshire, its history and some interesting facts. They have also been involved with preparing bunting, artwork and some will be helping to tidy up the town prior to the race commencing.
The Men’s race also departs from Beverley and finishes in Doncaster, however this does not come through Howden until later in the day. The caravan will travel through at approx. 2.50pm, with the race itself travelling through at approximately 4.51pm.
Due to the predicted number of visitors to Howden, road closures and traffic, the decision has been made for the school to close at 1.30pm on Thursday 3 May 2018. This ensures that the school buses are able to access the school site and still transport students’ home as normal prior to any road closures or roads becoming blocked. This also enables those with children at Howden Infants or Howden Juniors to collect students from us first before collecting younger children at 2.00pm.
On Thursday 3 May, the timings of the school day will vary slightly to allow those students interested to watch the race but to also enable Year 11 students to still have their usual GCSE lessons. The timings will be as follows:
8.40am AM Registration
8.45am Period 1
9.45am Morning Break
9.55am Period 2 / Participating students depart to watch the Women’s race
10.45am Period 3 / Participating students watch the Women’s race
12.10pm PM Registration
12.30pm Period 4
1.30pm School closes for the day and buses collect students
There is a GCSE Art practical exam taking place on the day and this will still go ahead as planned. Should parents of the students in the exam have concerns about their student getting home at the end of the exam due to the buses leaving early, then please contact the main office.
We are pleased to support the Tour de Yorkshire and the local community with this event and thank you in advance for your support.
