At Howden School we currently deliver for years 10 and 11 the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport. Within this qualification students complete 4 different units; Fitness Testing and Training, Development of Personal Fitness, Practical Sport and Planning and Leading Sports Activities.
The first two units (Fitness Testing and Training and Development of Personal Fitness) include assessing own fitness levels, looking at different fitness training methods and designing a fitness training programme to help students improve their fitness.
The practical sport unit looks at developing skills and knowledge in a team sport and an individual sport. The last unit, Planning and Leading Sports Activities develops skills needed in planning small sports activities and leading them. As a group students will also organise and deliver a small sports event for other students to take part in.
The BTEC SPORT course is assessed through assignments and practical assessments. At present there are no formal exams within the course.
